Brainstorming among silkscreened posters with Peet Fetsch of Big Table Studio and Scott Winter from College of Visual Arts.

One of the uncommon things about Northern Spark (aside from our nocturnal timing) is the very structure of the festival.  Northern Lights.mn curates a bunch of artist projects that appear in public space, but good amount of the art and events that comprise the festival are organized by many of the Twin Cities vibrant art, science and cultural organizations.

My job as the Director of Public Engagement for Northern Spark is to keep tabs on all of these partners, to make sure they’ve got the info they need and at times to play matchmaker between orgs that want to share resources.

So I spend my days zipping all over town and talking to folks about their programming ideas for the big night. Highlights from these meetings include talk of yarn-bombing bikes at American Swedish Institute; critters of the night from the Bell Museum of Natural History presented at the Weisman; a warm-weather appearance of the Art Shanties; a ring of artist projections all around the Science Museum of Minnesota; a rooftop installation at MCAD, all kinds of overnight print production at Open Book with Paper Darts, the Loft Literary Center and Minnesota Center for Book Arts, and camp songs and s’mores at the Walker.

Check out who’s on board so far on the Partnership page and be dazzled by the cultural resources of y/our city.
